These are actually words coming from our beloved instructors. The whole school is proud of us, of our achievement. I am sure that our seniors are proud of us too. To the comm, in terms of the unwavering spirit and attitude you all had shown, we feel that we had already clinched the GOLD WITH HONOURS. We had done our best, performed our best .
SNCO, we should treat this as a learning experience. We may not have met our expectations but we will continue to strive harder. JUBILATE, is one way in which we can prove our capability.
Frankly speaking, I was indeed touched by the way you all had sacrificed your recess time to go for extra prac and all that. The smiles which I saw on stage was really encouraging and motivating. There was no more fear;I didn't see the need of treatig the audience as 'potatoes'. I felt totally immersed in the music itself. I felt the determination in you guys. Even our instructors were moved by our pieces.
SNCO, believe in this, "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always REACH MY DESTINATION.

4 weeks left.
To some, you may think that it is still far away.
That we will, eventually, clinch gold with honours.
But, CO, we need to face to reality.
With just 4 weeks left, even if we were to put in our best efforts to improve,
There IS still a possibility of us getting silver.
You may think that other schools will make a mistake,
Secretly hoping that they WILL make a mistake,
But, SNCO, if you are talking about schools who had clinched
GWH consistently for the past few SYFs,
think about it again.
How BIG a mistake can they make?
CO, we don’t want you to be disillusioned,
we don’t want you to have such high hopes,
and end up to be ashamed or feeling terribly disappointed,
if the result is not up to our expectation.
We want you to be serious about SYF.
Your SLs are worried; your seniors are worried,
They are still worrying,
But they cannot help you
If you do not help yourself first.
Some of us chose to be indifferent,
Chose to be over-complacent,
But, SNCO, think about it.
Think about how we will feel if we get silver or bronze.
Think about letting our seniors down,
Letting our teachers down,
Letting SNCO down.
We know that you are trying to improve,
but have you ever thought about the preparation or improvements made by OTHER schools?
We are not only competing with other schools; we are also challenging ourselves.

SNCO, we need to take this in a positive manner.
Right now, we need to, at least, maintain a GOLD standard.
We need to hear out for each other,
We need to put our heart and soul in the music we are playing.
With perseverance, passion and the right attitude,
We are, then, well-prepared for SYF.

Hey CO !

I hope that all of you will read this blog post thoroughly and give some thought about it yea ?

This post is going to be rather long, so be patient & read on yea !

okay. here it goes.
I think for the sec 4s, many of us do realise the extent to which our standard has dropped since a few years back. for the sec 2s and 3s, yes, our standard has dropped quite significantly. For those of us sec 4s who have went through SYF and understood how much effort we put in to achieve that GOLD award, we feel rather dismayed about our current CO standard now.

i am not saying that SNCO isnt good. SNCO is good. its perfect. its fantabulous. remember what mrs. goh said ? when st.nicks is at its best, no one comes close. i believe in that statement, & i trust that all of you believe that statement too.

you see, WE CAN DO IT. we know that we can do it. but it all boils down to a matter of whether we are willing to do it.
the number of people bringing their instruments home to practice is declining. I feel rather saddened by this fact. as a member of the comm, sometimes we comm. feel very desperate while trying to improve the standards of the comm., yet no one is responding to our calls.

i would like to praise the liu qin people. They bring their instruments back home without fail at the end of each practice. I believe that they do practice their instrument. But what impresses me is the effort that they take to bring home their instrument after each practice.

If all of us could put in the effort to bring home our instruments to practice each week, i believe that the chances of getting a GOLD WITH HONOURS would be sky- high, let alone a gold. remember that old phrase practice makes perfect ?

as comm, we really hope that you can put in your best to play during each practice. Many a time we have reminded all of you to keep quiet, sit half a chair, to sit up straight, to play with emotions, to soak yourself in the music etc. its because we truely care for the standard for SNCO that we are reminding all of you to do these little actions. becos if we do not practice this actions in our usual practices, when SYF comes, many of us would not put the actions into practice.

sometimes when a few of us comm members gather together to discuss about the standard of CO, we are on the bringe of breaking down into tears. we really want to improve our standard. i am sure many of you have experienced the feeling of falling down from a peak point, & that feeling is terrible. but WE CAN NEVER GIVE UP. cos like i mentioned earlier, WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO IT.

Currently, what I feel thats lacking in CO is the passion and determination. All instruments have little parts here and there which are slightly difficult to master. Yet sometimes when we fail to master these parts, we get rather frustrated and we decided to skip it. this cannot be the case ! we cannot give in to challenges. they were meant to be there for us to conquer them. and by conquering them, CO reaches a new standard.

Another point to note which the comm. has been rehashing several times is the point on swaying with the music and to feel with the music. what set us apart from other schools during the past syf was how we swayed and felt for the music. from above, you could see SNCO swaying to the tempo of the music. its like, the entire piece of music coming to life ! when you sway with the music, you feel absorbed in it, and that feeling is great.

do not be afraid of swaying. do not tell yourself that you cant sway. its a fear that you have to overcome. follow your seniors and sway. you have seniors, you have us. we will always be there for you, no matter what happens.

if any of you face difficulties in a certain part, look for your seniors. they will help you. we want to help you. let us help you to sway, to feel for the music, to be more accurate in your playing, to keep the tempo going. we want to help you, so let us help you.

after such a long post, i hope that all of you will seriously take what i have said into consideration and reflect about this issue. if there's anything you feel that the comm. can improve on, feel free to approach any of us, we will be receptive towards your comments.

1. Remember to pay CO FUND of $5 to me by next week thursday which is 23 NOV !
2. People who signed up for the HCCO INTERACTION please remember to bring a set of fresh clothings to change and a pair of slippers for wet games ! Report at Hwa chong college section PUNCTUALLY at 8.30am. The interation will be until 6.00 pm in the evening. You can ask your parents to pick you up from Hwa chong after that.
3. CO camp will be on the 1st and 2nd December. Those who confirm cannot make it please tell Jasmine about it.
4. Sec 4s remember the camp date! There will be invitation cards mailed to you all I think. (:

From today on, let us start striving hard for SYF ! GOLD.
One year passes very fast !
Perseverance.
1) SWAY to the music.
Soak yourself in the music. Let the music overpower you. Feel free to borrow the CDs left by the sec 4s ! Close your eyes and listen out for the various sections and you will realise how magical the entire tapestry of music is !

2) LISTEN.
Listen out to the various sections as the music flows. We are playing together as ONE. Not as individuals. Its like doing a project. You have to put in your best. But at the same time, every single member must contribute and SHINE. Everyone's equal, if you do your best. No one will ostracize you.People will respect you. WE have to listen out for others too ! Thats why we are SNCO.

3) LOOK.
For the sec 1s, probably you all might have difficulties but try your best. We have to look at liu lao shi and follow closely to his beat. Ever realised, whenever he puts down his hands to signal the end or to stop in the midst of the piece, it takes at least 10 seconds for everyone to notice ? This is because, though you all can memorise the scores, everyone has been so accustomed to playing at their own beats and STARING at the scores ! The conductor is the crucial factor to our CO. Its he who starts us. Its he who helps us. Its he who ends the piece. So we have to listen to him and look at his actions ! Only then can our standard improve tremendously (:

My dear CO !

I had been searching for blogskins for the past three days but I cannot really find any that is really nice so I had decided to use this one ! : ) I hope that this blog will be a place where we, a part of CO, will hang around. It can be a place to rant your anger, to tell all of your frustrations, to announce any good news that you have or any other things. No matter what that you say, CO will give you our full support ! It is going to be SYF next year and I am sure all of us want to achieve a GOLD with HONOURS award. Others may say that we are aiming too high but I believe that IF we have the spirit and strength, as a whole CO, we will be able to make it. CO, trust yourselves ! If you never try, how will you know what will happen? If we try, we WILL get to our aim.
